"Winkling was a very popluar pastime for Cockneys and my grandfather had so many shells he made them into a path - "Winkle Walk" he called it. The Bungalow was called OSOKOSI. ( Oh So Cosy !)
Although I did swim off the shore as a child, it wasn't all that pleasant - far too rocky and generally lots of jelly fish."
"There were several interesting wrecks. There was a small fighter plane - people said a Spitfire, deep in the mud off the Point, and a thing which looked like a U Boat. HMS Worcester was still visible and we watched it gradually sink and disappear over time.
Of course, the Chapman Light was of great interest, I have a painting of this , and sometimes there would be a boat trip round it !"
