I am writing a piece about Capt Cyril Charles Alcindor who is commemorated on our WW2 Rolls of honour in St Nicholas Church.
Is anyone aware of any information about the family. We are trying to contact them for more information.

The information we have collected so far can be seen by following the link below.

If you can add anything or point me in the right direction please email me on jan@canveyisland.org
Thanks

I seem to remember my mother talking about the Alcindors. I think they lived in the Rose Road area and the sons were friends of my sisters so would now be in their mid late 80s. They were black (not a particularly politically correct word but how else do I describe them?) and I seem to remember my mother told me that the famous American singer Paul Robeson came to Canvey to stay with them. Can anyone else remember them?

Thanks for the additional information. That fits in with what we know so far. His father was quite famous as will be shown when I do the article on the archive.
